I made a much overdue trip to Happy Valley to visit the Moretz family last week. I have kept in touch with them since I first started becoming a photographer in 1997. It was people like this that drove my passion in photography. I enjoy hearing their stories and documenting their way of life. It was a pleasure to share the experience with my daughter. Like my other friends who live in the Appalachians, I always worry that this might be our last visit. Hoy is having a hard time getting around, the milk cow is gone causing Bertha to no longer be able to churn butter. I hope I can bring my family again and see these wonderful people.
